Attestation/Authentication/Execution of Documents (such as Affidavit, Power of Attorney, Commercial Documents etc.)

​General Guidelines 

Attestation of various documents such as Marriage Certificate, Power of Attorney, Educational Certificate, Commercial documents for business houses trading with Bangladesh or requiring the documents to be submitted to the authorities in Bangladesh are attested by the High Commission. 

Documents originating in Bangladesh must first be attested by the authorised officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. 

Documents originating in Australia/New Zealand/Fiji first have to be attested/authenticated by the concerned authority (i.e. Foreign Ministry of that country) before its submission to this High Commission for attestation. Please check with the concerned authorities (DFAT/MFAT) for their specific requirements for authentication/attestation of the documents. 

For attestation of Power of Attorney/Affidavit (Holofnama)/Statutory Declaration or similar documents, the applicant will have to appear in this Mission in person along with her/his valid/expired Bangladesh Passport or Australian/New Zealand Passport with 'No Visa Required ...' seal. The applicant will have to sign the 'Power of Attorney' in the presence of the authorised Consular Officer of this High Commission. 

Personal appearance before the Consular Officer of the High Commission is not obligatory if the document is attested by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade/Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the respective government of Australia/New Zealand/Fiji). Applicants are requested to check with their Foreign Office regarding their requirements for getting consular authentication/attestation.

Fees: 

  • Fee for this service will depend on the size of the document. For each set of document, fee for the first page is A$ 11.00. For each subsequent pages, the fee is @ A$ 6.00 per page. 
  • self-addressed pre-paid express (signature on delivery) return envelope/courier (for mail-in service).

Power of Attorney 

Requirement

  • The original “power of attorney document” and a set of photocopy
  • Two copies recent passport size photographs of both the Principal and Attorney 
  • Bangladesh passport (valid or expires) or Australian/New Zealand passport with NVR endorsement.
  • Fee for this service will depend on the size of the document. For each set of document, fee for the first page is A$ 11.00. For each subsequent pages, the fee is @ A$ 6.00 per page. 
  • self-addressed pre-paid registered/express return envelope/courier (for mail-in service, after attested from concerned Foreign Ministry)

Power of Attorney Rules - 2015

Educational Certificate

All Education degrees / documents of Bangladesh must first be attested from relevant educational institutions/board of education/university and Ministry of Education and from Consular section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dhaka before submitting for attestation by the High Commission of Bangladesh, Canberra.

Fee:      A$ 15.00 (per copy)

Verification of Bangladesh Driving License

Requirements

  1. Copy of both sides of Bangladesh Driving License.
  2. Copy of the data pages of Bangladesh Passport.
  3. Self-addressed pre-paid registered return envelope or pre-paid return courier.
  4. Processing fee of A$ 15.00 payable to “Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra” through Bank Cheque/Postal Money Order/EFT

    The above required documents can be submitted to the High Commission in Canberra by postal mail/courier not by e-mail.  

    The High Commission will send the driving licence details to the concerned authority (BRTA, Dhaka) in Bangladesh for authentication. After receiving the concerned authority's report from Bangladesh, the High Commission will issue a certificate and send to the applicant by return envelope. 

Police Clearance Certificate

Please note that the High Commission does not issue Police Clearance Certificates for Bangladesh or Foreign nationals.  Bangladesh nationals may kindly send the following documents to the High Commission for attestation, as these are required by the concerned authority in Bangladesh:

  1. An application letter addressed to the concerned (in accordance with the permanent address of the applicant) Commissioner of Police / Superintendent of Police / Officer-in-Charge in Bangladesh, original Bangladesh Passport and photocopy of relevant pages (Copy of the data pages for MRP or first five pages of hand written Bangladesh Passport.
  2. Self-addressed pre-paid registered express return envelope or pre-paid courier (for mail-in-service).
  3. Processing fee of A$ 15.00 payable to “Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra” through Bank Cheque/Postal Money Order/EFT.

    Cash/credit card/EFTPOS/Personal Cheque/Company Cheque/Direct Deposit are not accepted

     

The application letter and photocopy of relevant pages of Bangladesh Passport will be attested by the High Commission and these documents along with the original Bangladesh Passport will be sent back to the applicant. The applicant will then send the attested documents to the concerned Commissioner of Police / Superintendent of Police / Officer-in-Charge in Bangladesh for taking necessary action in this regard. The applicant may  authorise a person (in-writing) in Bangladesh to collect the police clearance certificate on his / her behalf from the concerned police office when it will be issued.

Foreign nationals may kindly send the following documents to the High Commission:

  1. ​An application letter addressed to the High Commission (mentioning the period, address & purpose of stay in Bangladesh).
  2. Photocopy of relevant pages of passport(s) held during stay in Bangladesh showing name, photograph, date and place of birth, date of issue and expiry, visa(s) and dates of entry and exit.
  3. Photocopy of relevant pages (bearing name, photograph, date and place of birth, date of issue and expiry) of the existing Passport.
  4. Photocopy of any other photo identity, if held during stay in Bangladesh.
  5. Photocopy of similar documents, mentioned above, or work permit of father or mother or legal guardian if the applicant lived in Bangladesh as a dependent child.
  6. Self-addressed pre-paid registered express return envelope or pre-paid courier (for mail-in-service).
  7. Processing fee of A$ 15.00 payable to “Bangladesh High Commission, Canberra” through Bank Cheque/Postal Money Order/EFT.
  • Cash/credit card/EFTPOS/Personal Cheque/Company cheque/direct deposit are not accepted

The High Commission will forward the application and other documents of foreign nationals to the concerned authority in Bangladesh. After receiving the concerned authorities report from Bangladesh, the High Commission will send the Report/Police Clearance Certificate to the applicant by post/courier.
